    When You Should Consider This Service

    This service is intended for situations where you are concerned that someone may have gained unauthorized access to your computer or convinced you to install software that you do not trust.

    Examples include:

    • Someone remotely accessed your computer
    • You allowed a person claiming to be technical support to connect to your computer
    • You installed remote-access software at someone's direction
    • You received a suspicious technical-support call or pop-up
    • You are concerned that remote-access software remains installed
    • You see unfamiliar programs or software on your computer
    • You entered personal information after a suspected computer scam
    • You are unsure whether someone still has access to your computer

    What We Can Check

    During the appointment, we can examine the computer for signs of unauthorized remote-access software, suspicious programs and other security concerns.

    Why We Come to Your Home

    Computer security problems can involve the actual computer, your home network and the way the computer is being used. An in-home visit allows us to work directly with your computer and your normal home environment.

    We can also help you understand what happened and what changes were made to the computer.

    If You Are Currently on the Phone With a Scammer

    If someone is currently telling you that your computer is infected, your account has been compromised, or that you must give them remote access, do not provide additional access or personal information simply because they are pressuring you to do so.

    If you can safely do so, end the call before seeking assistance. Legitimate companies generally do not unexpectedly contact you and demand immediate remote access to your computer in order to fix a problem.

    Important: Computer Security vs. Account or Financial Fraud

    We can help examine your computer for unauthorized software and remote access. However, if you provided a scammer with banking information, credit-card information, passwords, Social Security information or other sensitive information, additional action outside the computer may be necessary.

    Contact the appropriate financial institution, account provider or law-enforcement agency as applicable. We can help with the computer itself, but we cannot reverse financial transactions or investigate someone else's accounts.

    This service is designed to provide additional time for investigating a suspected remote-access or computer security incident.
